About Kinlochewe Lodges

Authentic Highland retreats around Achnasheen & Kinlochewe in Wester Ross, Scottish Highlands

Our History

Welcome to our family retreat. Kinlochewe Lodge has belonged to the Wilson family since 1991. The house was lovingly restored in 1992 and is still cared for by the family today.

We transformed the home into a holiday and private event venue in 1999, and later added two more properties to our offering – Achnasheen Lodge and Incheril Lodge.

Traditional Sporting Lodge

With outdoor pursuits popular pastimes in the Highlands of Scotland, many of our guests use our traditional properties as their base lodges for a variety of activities. The houses are perfectly set up for such pursuits, with drying room or drying facilities in every lodge.

200 Years of History

Kinlochewe Lodge was originally owned by the Whitbread family and used as their Highland retreat. Theirs is a name that beer enthusiasts might recognise.

Achnasheen Lodge is the former Garden or perhaps  Dower House for Lochrosque Castle, which belonged to the MP Sir Arthur Bignold and then John Mackenzie a Harley Street dentist. Traditionally Dower Houses were homes for the widows of late estate owners.

In September 1914 at the beginning of WWI, Winston Churchill, then First Lord of the Admiralty, passed the property on his way to inspect a naval fleet. Confusing a deer spotlight on the roof of the castle as a device for communicating with German spies, Churchill and a group of police officers entered the property. The light was dismantled and it is reported that Sir Bignold was most unamused.
